About Flappy Bird
Flappy Bird was developed by Vietnamese artist and programmer Dong Nguyen under his game development company. Flappy Bird is a side-scroller in which the player controls a bird attempting to fly between columns of green pipes without hitting them.
Nguyen created the game over several days, using a bird protagonist he had designed for a cancelled game in 2012.
The game was released in May 2013 but received an unexpected surge in popularity in early 2014, becoming a viral hit. Flappy Bird received negative reviews from some critics who criticized its high difficulty and alleged plagiarism in design and gameplay, while other reviewers found it addictive. In late January 2014, it was the most downloaded free game on the iOS App Store. During that period its developer claimed Flappy Bird was earning $50,000 per day from in-app advertising and sales.
Flappy Bird was removed from the App Store and Google Play by its creator on February 10, 2014. He stated he felt guilty that players were becoming too addicted to the game. Its sudden removal led to phones with the game already installed being sold at high prices. Similar games quickly flooded the marketplaces, but Apple and Google removed such clones.
In August 2014, an updated version called Flappy Birds Family was released exclusively for Amazon Fire TV.
How to Play Flappy Bird
Flappy Bird is an arcade game where the player controls bird Faby, who moves continuously to the right. The goal is to guide Faby through pairs of pipes with equal gaps positioned at random heights.
Faby falls automatically due to gravity and rises only when the player clicks or taps the screen. Each successful pass through a pair of pipes earns one point. Colliding with a pipe or the ground ends the game.
